Essilor Vision Foundation Celebrates 10 Years Of Better Sight

By Kim Schuy

In 2017, Essilor Vision Foundation celebrates its 10th anniversary. That’s 10 years of working toward our goal of eliminating poor vision and its lifelong consequences. But we know we cannot solve the vision crisis alone, and that it takes a community to help the millions of children in the U.S. who need vision correction services. By partnering with schools, eyecare professionals, non-profit charities, and community leaders over the last decade, Essilor Vision Foundation has been able to provide vision exams and glasses to children in need. Working hand-in-hand with other non-profits, eye care professionals and the support of Essilor employees, Essilor Vision Foundation has helped to distributed 500,000 pairs of glasses since 2007.

Thanks to our strong partnerships and the support of vision advocates over the years, the Foundation has achieved a number of significant milestones:

As we kick off our next decade, Essilor Vision Foundation is poised to continue and build upon the following accomplishments:
  • Our Kids Vision For Life program currently serves over 500 schools and supports over 300 events each year
  • EVF partners with over 110 non-profit organizations such as Special Olympics, Lions Club, Helen Keller, and Prevent Blindness
  • EVF partners with over 200 optometrists who support our cause by collecting donations, donating time for eye exams and participating in our lens and lab service program
  • For every dollar donated to EVF, 90% of the funds go directly to helping a child receive an eye exam and pair of glasses
  • Over 250,000 pairs of glasses will be provided in 2017
  • Over 30% of Essilor employees donate to Essilor Vision Foundation to help a child see the world clearly
Our goal is to continue to help the estimated 1 in 4 children who have vision issues significant enough to affect their learning, confidence, social interactions, and their ability to function in life. Unlike hunger or tooth decay, vision is an invisible problem; children are often unable to self-identify that their vision is impaired. Children rely on their parents, teachers and community to be advocates for their vision care. A simple pair of glasses can help a child succeed in life.

Essilor Vision Foundation will continue to advocate for vision as a cause and bring awareness to the millions of children in the U.S. who need vision care. Thank you for your support over the past 10 years, and helping to provide a better life through better sight for those in need.
